How Doctors Think
by Jerome Groopman
Amazon Price: $10.37
Customer Review: In "How Doctors Think" the author has provided a useful primer for non-doctors on what is going through the mind of most doctors when they are trying to investigate what is wrong with you. Trained in quantitative Bayesian analysis, using checklists, and full of other biases ranging from personal bias against patients who appear flaky, to a tendency to stop investigating when evidence that might prove the doctor's original diagnosis is found, even if that diagnosis is wrong, Groopman encourages readers to understand what is going on in the doctor's mind. Full of stories both of doctors who overcome these biases and those who seem to embrace them. Groopman advocates for patients to be engage...

The Gift of Therapy: An Open Letter to a New Generation of Therapists and The...
by Irvin Yalom
Amazon Price: $10.19
Customer Review: This man and this book scare me in two ways. Let me say that this was the first book about therapy that I read after starting my own therapy. I was a novice looking for a little insight into a process that was to me a little strange. First of all I find Dr. Yalom incredibly arrogant, he practically oozes hubris. I read two more of his books after this one and my initial assessment of his arrogance was confirmed. That is scary part #1. A therapist with an outsized ego.

Secondly, and most importantly this is subtitled as a guide to new therapists and some of the suggestions he throws out there, e.g. home visits have so much potential for possible boundary violation it isn'...

Freaks, Geeks & Asperger Syndrome: A User Guide to Adolescence
by Luke Jackson
Amazon Price: $10.56
Customer Review: I love this book!! As a of parent 4, the oldest being an 11 yo boy with AS it was the most helpfull (and I'v read alot!!). Cause its writen by a 13 yo boy with AS its also a fun cute at times funny read. It helped so much with the nagging questions you have as a parent..like weather or not to tell them of there dx?? or why do they do that all the time and should I stop them?? I first read this when my son was first dx with AS at 7...I'm rereading it now that he is in Adolescence, Then I will have him read it. I think he will very much enjoy it as he can so relate with Luke. I have asked his Middle school teachers to read it aswell. Never really understood what whent on in my boys head ...

The Sixty-Second Motivator
by Jim Johnson
Amazon Price: $10.76
Customer Review: Review by Richard L. Weaver II, PhD.

Using Jim Johnson's book, The Sixty-Second Motivator, in just 1-2 hours (the time it takes you to read this book), you can learn what it often takes courses, lengthy DVDs, and major volumes to teach. Johnson bases this work on research results (rather than simply on his own personal experiences), but in a friendly, low-key, well-written, enjoyable, easy-to-understand manner, he offers practical tips and valuable insights about why we do and do not do things. This book is more of a story than a collection of facts, and it reads more like a mystery. Do you want to know what makes you "tick"? This 80-page book has the answers. It is value-packed...

Asperger Syndrome and Long-Term Relationships
by Ashley Stanford
Amazon Price: $16.02
Customer Review: I purchased this book a month ago in a last ditch effort to save my 23 year marriage to a man with Asbergers and to better understand our triplets w/As as well. The boys always had the dx but my husband was hesitant to accept the diagnosis. Although I knew what AS was and felt I was very knowledgable I wasn't. This book really takes you from the begining of a diagnosis, TO HOW TO AFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE AND UNDERSTAND YOURSELF AND YOUR AS FAMILY MEMBER. This book is wonderful not just for marriages will work for any relationship w/ an AS. My AS son is in a relationship with an AS girl, and asked me if he could borrow the book,:)
Our marriage of 23 years a month ago was ready to blow ...
